Simply translated, satmya means adaptability or adaptation and originally comes from the ancient Sanskrit language. The concept of Satmya can be translated as a “A thing or substance or habit that is useful for the body”. We see yoga as a truly useful habit for the body in the busy, fast paced world we live in.
At Satmya Yoga we truly believe in the power of adaptability in all aspects of life. Whether on the yoga mat adapting a pose to suit individual ability or in day to day life adapting to constantly changing schedules and environments. Yoga is a tool we both personally use to keep us flexible in body and mind.
While many people have an image of yoga being all about twisting your legs behind your head, this is not the case. Yoga is for everyone, regardless of your age, ability or flexibility. Poses can be adapted to suit each individual based on their particular needs and abilities. With regular practice we can overcome our own physical and mental limitations through yoga, gaining confidence, reducing stress and connecting to our breath and body in new ways.
At Satmya Yoga, our goal is to create a welcoming, friendly, safe environment for our students to explore their yoga practice. We aim to make every class accessible to women and men of all ages and levels.
Classes are based on Traditional Yoga (also known as Hatha Yoga) and integrate the practices of physical postures (asana), breathing techniques (pranayama), relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation. These practices help expand your awareness of the deeper levels of our being and can improve health, happiness and wellbeing.
